Hello sports fans,
I’ll be reading this Thursday, March 11th, as a contestant in Opium Magazine’s Literary Death Match. LDM, in the words of its creators, “marries the literary and performative aspects of Def Poetry Jam, rapier-witted quips of American Idol’s judging (without any meanness), and the ridiculousness and hilarity of Double Dare.” I’ll have the honor of reading alongside author and Emmy award-winner Zach Powers; Adam Davies, author of Mine All Mine (one of Booklist’s Ten Best Crime Books of the year); and Maryanne Stahl (author of Forgive the Moon).
Where: Blowin’ Smoke, 514 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. (map)
When: Doors at 7:00, show at 8:00 (sharp)
Cost: $5 preorder; $8 at the door; $5 with a valid student ID
Come cheer me on!
For those of you keeping score at home, an update on my literary happenings:
My work is featured in the Dec./Jan. issue of South Magazine, where I was an editorial intern this past fall. Also, my writing appeared in the Nov./Dec. issue of Savannah Magazine, in the Last Word column.
I will be reading my creative nonfiction story “Pops” at the upcoming Savannah Book Festival on February 6th at 10 a.m. Attendance is free, and guests are encouraged to throw their underwear on stage during the reading. (Not really. But it’d be cool.)
“Pops” will be published in the upcoming issue of the Document Literary Journal.
My M.F.A. thesis, the memoir Marrow, continues to progress and I’ll post any news on publication of its bits and pieces here.
Thanks for your support!
There’s nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein.
